Because every successful person has them.

Getting hate from any source, be it online or in person, can be incredibly discouraging. You might start to doubt yourself and wonder, What if they’re right? What if I’m just not good enough?

But here’s the thing: Many of the people who hate on others are really incredibly envious. It’s sad but true.

If they see someone earning a lot more money than they do or daring to make their dreams a reality, it bothers them. A lot.

This is often a sign that they’ve never had the courage to follow their own passions, and seeing someone on the path to success reminds them of that. To some, tearing others down gives them a sense of control and authority.

But the fact remains: No one likes having haters!

It can be heartbreaking to read a cruel comment on the book you’ve spent years creating or the article you wrote with the intention of inspiring others.

Don’t let it get you down, though! Here are a few mindset shifts you can make to help you deal with toxic external noise.

  1. Remember that all successful people have haters

Let that sink in: There isn’t a single successful person on this earth who doesn’t have at least a few haters. Seriously.

So, in a way, having people who are trying to bring you down is an indication that you’re probably doing something right!

For example, some people think Tony Robbins speaks too quickly and sells too many health products, for goodness’s sake, even though he’s an amazing man who has helped countless people.

He’s even dedicated himself to feeding those in America who are wondering where their next meal will come from. And yet, that’s apparently not enough for some people!

It just goes to show that folks will find something to criticize no matter what you do. Just stay focused on your goals and don’t worry about what strangers think.

As the saying goes, don’t take criticism from anyone you wouldn’t turn to for advice!

  1. Remember that haters are really talking about themselves

Insecure people project their own insecurities onto others, so just remember that these folks aren’t even talking about you: They’re talking about themselves.

They’re simply trying to make you stop creating and give up on your mission.

Don’t let them do that!

Continuing to create and work towards your goals is the most powerful thing you can do when faced with people who don’t believe in you.

It shows you’re really committed and won’t let other peoples’ negativity bring you down. And that is the important thing.

  1. Don’t spend your time or energy responding to hate

It’s all too easy to be mean back and try to win arguments, but that’s such a waste of time—a resource that’s really precious for entrepreneurs!

It’s okay to feel some discouragement—you’re human after all!—but responding to hate will almost always make things worse.

If you don’t respond, you’re showing your haters that they don’t have the power to change your mind. Not responding also shows them you’re too busy chasing your dreams to worry about what they have to say.

Sometimes, no response is the perfect response. Just don’t play their game. Know that getting hate is just part of what comes with daring to achieve your goals in life.

You deserve to dedicate your time and energy to a more worthy cause than answering people who don’t want the absolute best for you.

Keep going with your mission, even when it gets tough and you’re faced with judgment and cruelty.

Why? Because your mission is more important than the haters’ cutting comments: Remember: You’re in the arena – they’re not. You’re going after your goals – they’re not.

Regardless of what they have to say, you can and are achieving great things. So don’t throw in the towel, don’t back down, and don’t be afraid.

In case no one’s told you today, you’re killing it! Keep going.
